Meta has introduced a lineup of new WhatsApp features to improve users' calling experience. The new features include WhatsApp Web Calling, Transfer Calls Between Devices, a Waiting Room for Group Calls, Instant HD Video, and Background Noise Suppression.
“These features are rolling out gradually and will be available to everyone soon,” the company said in a statement on Thursday.
The WhatsApp Web calling feature enables users to make and receive one-on-one and group audio and video calls directly from WhatsApp Web. Users will also have access to call-specific features such as screen sharing, reactions, and a dedicated Calls tab that displays their call history and favourites from their browser.
With the Transfer Calls Between Devices feature, users can move an active group call from one device to another without hanging up.
For users who want more control over who joins group calls and when, the new Waiting Room feature offers a solution. According to Meta, when users create a WhatsApp call link with “Require approval to join” enabled, participants will enter a waiting room until they are admitted by the host.
Meta also said the Background Noise Suppression feature allows users to reduce unwanted background noise during calls, even in noisy environments. The feature can be enabled through the in-call settings.
The Instant HD Video feature allows users to enjoy “high-definition video” from the first few seconds of a call.
