In an attempt to garner mainstream experience and practical exposure, Members of the Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University, on the 9th of Feb. 2023, visited prominent media houses in Lagos and Ibadan.
The one-day media tour started with a visit to the Punch Newspaper in Lagos where they were taken through the process of newspaper production right from the news gathering and reporting to the editing process and to the final production stage where they were exposed to the printing and distribution process.
Subsequently, the members paid a visit to the Nigerian Tribune in Ibadan. The Newspaper is said to be the oldest privately-owned newspaper in Nigeria, established in 1949. They had access to the newspaper's library and were also taken through the process of making cartoons for publication.
Agidigbo FM in Ibadan was their last stop. Here, they were taken to different units of the station and got exposed to important aspects of broadcasting.
Sharing her remarks following the tour, the president of the association, Faith Alofe noted that the reason for the tour is to “give members a sense of push that they are in the right line of work”. She further said that the experience is an unforgettable one as it will serve as a guide to the journey ahead.
Alofe appreciated the media houses for their kind reception.
Also commenting, Latinwo Gbolahan described the tour as an eye-opener. He stressed that a campus journalist should have the tour experience at least once before graduating to have insights as regards the activities of the media houses.
