Special: Students Express Expectation as Students' Union CTC Sets To Hold FYB Week

In a bid to create unity among members of the University Community, the Social Director of the Students' Union Caretaker Committee (CTC), Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto is set to hold Final Year Bredren Week (FYB) at the School's Convocation Theatre.

This information which was obtained by Vanguard Press is contained in a flier, released by the Social Director, Akande Fatai Ayomide to various media outlets.

The event is expected to be held for a period of 5 days, from Monday 6th November to Friday 10th November 2023.

Meanwhile, Corporate Day, Old School/Back to School, Jersey Day, Cultural Attire, and Abaya/Jalabia Day are the activities to be featured during the week.

In an interview with Observers Mag Correspondent, Akande revealed to Vanguard Press that the FYB week was not restricted to the final students.

When asked the rationale behind the event, he said, "The idea is birth out of a need to create unity among the graduating students, to celebrate the uniqueness and dynamism of each department amongst other fields and most importantly to create memory, all things being equal, they won't be final year students twice."

Finalists React 

Afolayan Baliqeez, a final-year student of Chemical and Life Science shares her perspective and expectations. "I feel good about it, because it is the first of its kind in UDUS and people are willing to turn up for it especially me," she said. 

According to her, the event will be an interesting one with a huge turnout. She particularly looks forward to the cultural day. "I will be seeing many tribes in their attire and also I am expecting some of the tribes to enlighten us on how their culture has been made-up and I want to taste their foods."

Another finalist, Abdulrahman who is a 400-level student of Accounting is feeling enthusiastic. "As long as I am not planning to embark on another degree, this FYB week is once in university life so I am expecting as much fun there could be. Let's paint UDUS red," he expressed.

Others Commment 

Peace Monday, a 300-level student from the Department of English, appreciates the brains behind the event. "This session's FYB week is the first of its kind in the institution and I want to commend everyone who has put in efforts and other resources to make it a success." 

According to her, it is a good time for the final year students to come together to celebrate and reflect on their experiences and accomplishments, while looking forward to the future. "I hope it is fun-filled, educational, and interactive. I also urge final-year brethren to participate in the activities of the week. Congratulations to all final-year students", she added.

Ahmad Muhammed, a practical year student of the Faculty of Agriculture also feels the idea is a brilliant one. "I am very sure UDUS will like to promote social activities not just the book," he said. According to him, the event will give the finalists an opportunity to bond and create fun memories.
