I love it when people laugh at what I do, especially when dressing, this makes people think of our culture
Two Osun State University students, Akinsola Akinbayo Christopher, and Olatunde Michael Ayomid were spotted on Tuesday afternoon at the Ikire Campus of the university dressed in a traditional outfit.
In an interview with them, they expressed affection for outfits like “Agbada, Esiki” and other cultural outfits, citing comfort as a driving factor.
When asked about the amusing reactions from onlookers, they acknowledged their love for it with one stating, "I love it when people laugh at what I do, especially when dressing, this makes people think of our culture”.
In contemporary times, the influence of Western fashion trends has made youths prefer modern Western-style clothing. For some, dressing in traditional outfits is perceived as outdated or lacking in style. However, individuals like Akinbayo and Ayomide view it as a deliberate effort to champion and preserve their cultural heritage.
