89 bags First Class As UNIOSUN Prepares To Convoke 4,210 Students

Osun State University is set to convoke 4,210 graduates at the first combined convocation ceremonies of the state-owned varsity. This was made known by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Odunayo Adebooye during a press conference on Friday 22nd September 2023.

The press conference which was held at the council chambers on the university's main campus in Osogbo marked the commencement of the combined 12th and 13th convocation ceremonies for the 2021/2022 and 2023/2023 final year students of the school. 


Out of a total of 4,210 degrees and diplomas to be awarded. 3,959 are first degrees, 229 master degrees, 13 doctoral degrees, and 09 postgraduate diplomas, for final year students for the 2021/2022 academic session and 2022/2023 academic session.

In the breakdown of the various degrees and diplomas in terms of class of degrees, Professor Adebooye said 89 students bagged first class, while 1, 326 students bagged Second Class (upper division), 1,818 bagged second class (lower division), 470 third class, and 5 passed.

He also expressed the readiness and commitment of the university management to the development of the school and its visions. He added that they were committed to achieving them in the years to come. 

In his words: "I am very happy to inform our stakeholders that we are consistently poised to take the continental lead in academic excellence and global visibility for relevance and impact. We are very strongly committed to our vision and founding objectives as a responsible and highly responsive 21st-century university. Our targets are clear, and our strategies are well-defined. We want to be among the top 10 Universities in Nigeria and emerge in the top 25 in Africa by 2026."

The grand finale of the convocation which will be held on 28th September, 2023 will be presided over by the Executive Governor of Osun State and Visitor to the University, Senator Ademola Adeleke. The University Chancellor, Apostle (Dr) Folorunsho Alakija, will also be in attendance to award the various degrees. At this event, the various achievements of the school in the last year will be revealed.

Lastly, the VC thanked the management, senate, all staff, and students for their support for the university. "Together we will move UNIOSUN to greater heights."  He said while also congratulating the graduating students on the successful completion of their studies within record time in the university.
