Not less than 20 campus journalists got inducted into the Kowee News Agency at her induction ceremony held on December 16, 2023, at the Department of Linguistics and African Languages foyer, Obafemi Awolowo University.
The induction ceremony themed, “Welcoming the Next Wave of Journalists” commenced with an opening speech by the agency’s Editor-in-Chief, Akinreti Taiwo Comfort, who welcomed the inductees and urged them to embrace the opportunity to learn and evolve as professionals as they embark on their journalistic journey.
She congratulated the newly inducted members and assured them that the agency is a safe space for them to express themselves freely and also a meeting point for ideas. She also stated that they were in a haven as they embarked on their news writing journey.
Also speaking, the chairman, Guild of Editors, Association of Campus Journalists, OAU (ACJOAU) Mr. Ayomide Adesina, extensively discussed the ethics of journalism. He used his experiences as a case study while also providing tips and insights on how to navigate life in journalism, particularly as a student.
In his remark, the Editor-in-chief of OAUkilonshele, Tolulope Adeniran, advised the inductees to be more proactive to make editorial work smoother.
The production manager, Miss Amosun Sharon, led the induction oath-taking section, administering a solemn pledge of adherence to the principles of honesty, accuracy, and impartiality that define Kowee News Agency and journalism in general.
The oath ceremony serves as a reminder of the significant responsibilities entrusted to journalists in society.
Also in attendance was the president of the Linguistics and African Languages Students’ Association, Abidemi Abeeb.
