2024 Budget: Tinubu to implement 'more sustainable model of funding tertiary education'

By Quadri Yahya

President Bola Tinubu said the federal government will implement a "more sustainable model of funding tertiary education."

The President said this during the proposal of the 2024 budget of N27.5 trillion before a joint session of the 10th National Assembly in Abuja.

He also vowed that the long-awaited student loan will kick off by January next year.

He said, "To address long-standing issues in the education sector, a more sustainable model of funding tertiary education will be implemented, including the Student Loan Scheme scheduled to become operational by January 2024."

Recall that lack of funding has posed a challenge to public institutions in the country.

In the same vein, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman had earlier disclosed that the government would soon grant full autonomy to universities.
